General Ordering Information

  • themodelmakersresource.co.uk is owned and run by The Model Makers Resource Ltd.
    Registered in England on 15th July 2002, Company Reg. No. 4485625
    Our Registered Address is: 31 Church Street, Whitby, YO22 4AE.
    Please note that our registered office is NOT open to the public.

  • We have NO MINIMUM ORDER so you can order one tiny item if that's all you want.

  • The prices shown in our catalogue INCLUDE VAT. The Model Makers Resource Ltd is not currently VAT registered.

  • We are able to accept card payments online using secure server facilities provided by WorldPay. We do not accept any other form of payment.

  • The products that we sell are intended for use by model makers and are NOT sold as collectors items. It is therefore possible that the packaging will not be in pristine condition as we assume that our customers will be more interested in the contents (which should of course be in pristine condition) than the packaging (which they will most likely throw away).

  • We reserve the right to refuse to supply any item, despite it being listed on our site, and give a refund instead.

Despatch Estimates

Despatch estimates are given on the shopping basket page and on certain other pages and give an indication of when we expect that we would be able to despatch the item/order.

When items are in stock the estimate given is usually in the order of a few days and depends mostly up workload. Weekends, bank holidays etc. are also take into account.

If an item is out of stock, or you want more than we have, our system looks at which supplier we obtain it from, when we are due to order from them, and how long it usually takes them to supply us. In these cases the despatch estimate will normally be in the order of two to three weeks.

Note that on the shopping basket page, you are given a despatch estimate for each individual item as well as for the order as a whole. We are NOT able to split orders but using this information you could opt to split the order yourself.

Please note that these estimates are of when we can DESPATCH the item/order and does NOT include time taken for the item to travel through the post (although this is normall only a couple of days at most).

You should also be aware that there are occasions when an item that we've ordered from a supplier does not get sent to us and we will not be able to meet the estimate. Should this happen, we will contact you at the earliest opportunity with a new estimate of when we should have it and give you the option to cancel your order should you prefer not to wait.

Availability

Most of our online catalogue is dynamically generated from our stock database and only lists products that are actually in stock. Normally there is nothing to stop you ordering more than we have in stock and a despatch estimate will be calculated as described above.

Some products however have limited availability and our ordering system will restrict the number that you can place in your basket. For the most part these products are rare, end-of-line, or simply those which we've sometimes found difficult to obtain. Should you require a larger quantity of an item than our system will allow, please contact us BEFORE ordering and we will advise as to the likelihood of our being able to obtain them for you.

Another type of limited availability products are those on which we are doing some kind of special offer and have therefore limited to one per order. These will generally be marked as such.

Shipping Costs

Our online ordering system calculates the weight of the items in your shopping basket, looks at what packing materials will be needed, and works out what it will actually cost us to shop them (and this is what we charge). All of this is calculated on the shopping basket page so you'll be able to see exactly how much you're going to be asked for if you proceed through the checkout.

Please note that some elements of the shipping cost are NOT dependant upon weight. For example it costs a set amount for a recorded delivery and the cost of the cardboard box in which your order will be packed is the same whether it is full or not. It is usually possible therefore to add extra items to an order without causing any significant increase in the shipping costs (and thereby getting better value for money from them).

Recycling

We try to be as environmentally friends as possible; using recycling packaging materials, etc. We also try to reuse packing materials that were used by our suppliers to send things to us. Although this saves the cost of new materials, the saving is pretty much offset by the extra time, storage space, etc, involved in doing this and we hope that should your order be packed in recycled materials you will not feel in any way cheated by our efforts to preserve the environment.

Overseas Shipping

We regret that we are not able to ship to addresses outside of the UK.

Cancelling Your Order

In the time between placing your order and it being despatched, you may cancel your order by sending us an email to that effect (please be sure to quote your order number). Unfortunately this will incur a cancellation fee of £1.12 plus 5% of the value of your order. This is necessary because of the fees incurred in processing your payment which do not get refunded to us and which we would otherwise have to pass on to other customers. After your order has been despatched you may return items for a refund as specified below.

Missing & Damaged Items

All items should be inspected upon receipt (kits should be checked for completeness). If anything is missing or damaged, please DO NOT return anything until we have asked you to do so as we anticipate that it will be possible to resolve most problems without the need to return items (and therefore without you incurring the cost of returning it).

You may be interested to know that most kit manufacturers operate a free replacement service for missing or damaged parts which you can use by contacting them directly. We will of course be happy to deal with the matter on your behalf if you prefer.

Returns & Refunds

Items which, upon inspection, do not meet your requirements may, after you've contacted us and we've asked you to return them, be returned for exchange or refund provided that they are returned in their original saleable condition. Please DO NOT return anything to us without us specifically asking you to do so as we need to be involved in arranging their return.

Please note that refunds for returned goods will usually incur a re-stocking fee of £1.12 plus 5% of the value of goods returned. This is necessary because of the fees incurred in processing your payment which do not get refunded to us and which we would otherwise have to pass on to other customers.
